While writing the review for PowerAmp I tried musiXmatch since it was suppose to be a plugin for lyrics. I didn’t like musiXmatch since it was a music player that downloaded lyrics. I went looking for another app that would give me lyrics and found this small app. I’ve been using it since.
What does the App claim it can do?
Kaamos claims “Lyrics Grabber is a free add-on for Android music players. You continue using your favourite music player as before but Lyrics Grabber adds functionality to view lyrics of any song you are listening to.” I don’t know if I can add any much more than this. It is a simple app that the author claims detects the current song being played and downloads the lyrics of the song. It is suppose to store the lyrics on your phone in case you play it again. The app pops up a notification when it’s got new lyrics which you can turn off if you don’t need it.
Does the App REALLY do what it claims to do?
I was surprised at how seamless this app was in my system. It just works. The app is 56k download, takes next to zero resources and so far it’s picked up the lyrics to all the songs I’ve checked, even some songs from of my esoteric albums. I haven’t tested it’s limits yet and I expect that it will fail to download some of your songs since not every song is on the internet yet.
What do I like most about the App?
It’s small, it integrates well, it picks up all the lyrics, and I can easily sing along to my favorite tunes. I like that it doesn’t have a music player attached and that it supports many different players. Winamp is supported too but you need to have the last.fm app installed, you don’t need to be a last.fm user, just have the app.
What’s not to like about it?
The app is so small it’s hard to find anything to dislike. It does what it says and doesn’t have features that it doesn’t need. It might not support all the music players so if it doesn’t support yours just pop an email to the author and ask if it’s planned.
What are the little niggles (What would make it perfect)?
Um…… It doesn’t scroll automatically.
Why did I decide to keep/remove it?
I’m keeping it because every once in a while I want to sing along to Steve Taylor.
Would my wife use it?
Sure, I expect that she’ll install it after my review, she likes to sing along to P!nk.
